The grade decides the bar, not the profile

Two blow bars can share a profile and behave nothing alike. Before anything else, one question: what is in your feed?

Manganese steel. A relatively low-cost option offering good wear life, ideally suited for high impact applications where tramp metal or uncrushable objects are included in the feed material. It arrives at around 200/230 Brinell (20/21 HRC) and work-hardens in service up to about 500 Brinell (50 HRC), roughly 10 mm deep, while the layers below stay tough. Available in standard and premium grades.

Hi-Chrome white iron. Ideally suited to high abrasion, offering cost effective wear life. The carbon is chemically bonded as chrome carbide, and those hard carbides in a hard matrix give the wear resistance — at the cost of toughness. Typically 56 to 61 HRC with very low impact strength, so there may not be any unbreakable elements in the feed. Available in medium and high chrome grades.

Martensitic steel. Ideal where the feed material varies. Impact resistance similar to manganese steel with improved wear properties and good resistance to abrasive gouging. Used in primary or secondary crushing where high wear and impact both exist — duty in which manganese is too soft and chromium white iron is not durable enough for the impact.

Short version. Uncrushables in the feed → manganese. Clean and abrasive → Hi-Chrome. Unpredictable → martensitic.

Beyond the bar

The rest of the impactor.

We cast the full impactor wear package in high chrome white iron: HSI and VSI grinding bars, wear plates, impellers, anvils, distributor plates and impactor hammers.

And beyond impactors — jaw plates, cones, mantles and bowl liners in manganese steel for primary and secondary crushing circuits.

Common questions

Blow bars — questions we get.

Which crusher brands do you make blow bars for? We are an OEM supplier to Metso Minerals, Hazemag, Rubble Master, Humboldt Wedag, Paul Wurth and FLSmidth. We also make aftermarket blow bars for Kleemann, Parker, Svedala, Tesab, Hartl, Canica, Eagle, Kawasaki, Telsmith, Spokane, Pulvomatic and Stedman, among others.
Which grade should my blow bars be? It depends on the feed. If tramp metal or uncrushable objects reach the chamber, manganese steel. If the feed is clean and highly abrasive, Hi-Chrome white iron. If the feed varies and both wear and impact are present, martensitic steel.
Why did my high chrome blow bar break? Almost always because something unbreakable was in the feed. Chrome iron typically reaches 56 to 61 HRC with very low impact strength, so there may not be any unbreakable elements in the feed material. For that duty you want manganese instead.
Can you make blow bars from a worn sample or drawing? Yes. Send a drawing, a pattern or a worn bar and we will cast to it, in-house from R&D and design right up to final finishing.
Are you ISO certified? Yes. Melco Precisions works to an ISO 9001 quality management system, certified by International Certifications Limited. Melt chemistry, heat treatment parameters and final dimensions are controlled and recorded.
What do you supply for demolition recycling crushers? Kleemann Reiner blow bars in manganese steel grade 6/7, made to survive the rebar and tramp metal that comes with recycled construction material.

Send a drawing, a pattern, or a worn bar.

Tell us the machine and what goes into it. We will tell you the grade.
